JUNE 7 – 2018 - North King Lodge

JUNE 7 – 2018

Largest Chinook : 25lbs.
Largest Halibut : 65lbs.

Well it’s D-Day at the lodge and we are ready to go. It’s been a long road to get to this point over the winter but we are here on site now and feeling good about the season.

As most of you know, the Federal Government has imposed some changes for the 2018 fishing season. There is good and bad to all these changes. The bad is that they have changed the retention limit of Chinook to 1 per day and 2 possession. This will mean that fishermen will definitely be more selective on what they want to keep. The good on this is that this is instituted for the entire North Coast. Being that we generally get fish after they have travelled past Haida Gwaii it should mean for a greater number of fish in this area to catch, and I mean our fishing has always been great so this should only make it better. Total salmon limit remains the same at 4 a day and 8 possession.
This Chinook regulation is imposed until July 31 for Area 6. Beginning August 1st, the Chinook regulation returns to 2 per day and 4 possession.

Halibut have changed for size limit coast wide, small remains 83 cm and 115 cm (approx 45#) for the larger one.

Lingcod possesion is 2 and 4 and we have removed the Lodge policy size limit on them. Yelloweye is now non-retention.

The pre-season fishing has been great in our area and the hottest spots are all within yelling distance from the lodge.

Borrowman Bay has been great anytime in the day, morning bites and night bites have been best. Dark Side turned on this morning, Arnie’s Hole has also been a favorite hole for the guides. We spent some time south of the lodge at Funky Rock and Treneman Island also the action was non-stop. Anything seems to be working now from anchovies to spoons. Weather has been bad so not much fishing for Halibut has been done aside from a short afternoon in Parker which turned out to be instant fish as well. The water conditions are very fishy, cold and clear so its only gonna get better and better.
